Vin Diesel's GOTG Only Line: I AM GROOT

Updated: Feb 4, 2023

Vin Diesel became world famous playing Dominic Toretto, and due to his worldwide popularity with The Fast and The Furious franchise we often forget that Vin Diesel is a multifaceted actor who played many other characters throughout his career.

One of those characters even as notorious as Dom is the one we are going to remember today when talking about Groot, a character whom Vin Diesel brought to life with his voice in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy (retroactively referred to as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1) is a 2014 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 10th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Directed by James Gunn, who wrote the screenplay with Nicole Perlman, the film features an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as the titular Guardians, along with Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro. In the film, Peter Quill and a group of extraterrestrial criminals go on the run after stealing a powerful artifact. Wikipedia.

Plot: Brash space adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb's true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.

Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures also released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 in 2017 and is working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 with announced release this May 5, 2022. After this little remanding about Guardians of the Galaxy, let's go back to Vin's voicing Groot.

His line was "I Am Groot" three words only, but as you can see in the below video his voice was recordered in many different languages and in many different vocal expressions giving diversity to the character to be able to be use in the film depending on the situation in which the character finds himself.

Since GOTG Vol 1 we saw Groot going from adult Groot, baby Groot, teenager Groot and we all felt in love with him. Groot is James Gunn's creation, one of his most loved characters.

I think it was wise on James Gun selecting Vin Diesel's voice for his "baby", the result of the fusion between those two cinematography's genius made Groot an admired and loved worldwide idol.

In February this year Vin Diesel posted to his Instagram account that he was already recording the voice of Groot for the next MCU out coming installment GOTG Vol 3 that will expand "The Groot Universe".
