With the success of Fast Five crossing the $788.8 millions worldwide box office, was no surprise when in June 2011 Universal Pictures announced the next installment in less than two years period and Fast & Furious 6 also known by Furious 6 released was set up to May 24, 2013 during a Memorial Day weekend. Vin Diesel and Neal H. Moritz will produce and Justin Lin will direct.
Fast & Furious 6 (onscreen as Furious 6) is a 2013 American action film directed by Justin Lin and written by Chris Morgan. It is the sequel to Fast Five (2011) and the sixth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. The film stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Luke Evans, Gina Carano, and John Ortiz.
Plot: Since Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian's (Paul Walker) heist in Rio left them and their crew very rich people, they've scattered across the globe; however, they must still live as fugitives, unable to return home to the states with their families. Meanwhile, Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) has been tracking a gang of lethally skilled mercenary drivers whose second-in-command is someone Dom knows. Unable to take them down himself, Hobbs asks Dom and his crew for help to apprehending the mercenary organization in exchange for full amnesty to everyone for their past crimes. Dom accepted the deal in all terms and conditions presuming that one of the members of the organization was his wife, Letty Ortiz.
Fast & Furious 6 continues this, action/adventure/international spay elements, knowing that this new diversion from the original street racings' theme will increase the series' audience. Pre-production for the film began in April 2011.
Furious 6 production began in July 2012, which lasted until that December, with filming locations including Los Angeles, London, Glasgow, and the Canary Islands.
Fast & Furious 6 worldwide premiered in London on May 17, 2013, and was theatrically released in conventional and IMAX theaters by Universal Pictures in Los Angeles, California on May 24.
The film received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for the stunts and action sequences. It grossed $788.7 million worldwide, making it the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2013, the then-fourth highest grossing film distributed by Universal.
