Back in April and after ten days with filming under way on Tuesday April 26, 2022, Justin Lin shocks the entire world, posting to social media his decision to step back as director of Fast X.
By May 2022, Louis Leterrier would ultimately sign on as Fast X director and after seeing his Fast X trailer, I must admit that Louis Leterrier vision and experience brought Fast and Furious clearly back to earth in an extreme and massive action film that I am counting the day to watch complete. We are all happy to have you on board at the director's chair Mr. Leterrier!
With Fast X’s trailer being released to the general public recently, Leterrier discussed why it was significant for him to bring his spin to the billion-dollar franchise. The 49-year-old told Comic Book during Fast X ‘s trailer release party in Los Angeles in Feb. 9 that despite the movies being known for their action-packed scenes, he wanted to bring some form of reality and emotion. Leterrier said:
“Well, it was important for me to bring my flair. My flair is reality, is physics, is bringing the actors into the action, never separating action and storytelling and emotion. Everything is doing a little bit of stirring the pot and bringing everybody into this controlled chaos.”
This isn’t the first time Leterrier has opened up about his experience shooting Fast X. In a separate interview with Total Film, the director expressed that his first couple of takes after signing on to film Fast X were “daunting” because he wasn’t well prepared. Further in the discussion, Leterrier added that after rewriting the script and making it his own during his first week on set and working alongside Diesel, he was able to find his footing.
‘Fast X’ director was desperate to bring his own flair to the long-running franchise

When Louis Leterrier accepted the job of directing Fast X last year, he found himself presented with a nerve-wracking question: How in the hell was he going to top Tej and Roman's trip to outer space in F9? It seemed that a franchise known for a collection of ever-increasing set pieces had reached the zenith of blockbuster insanity. But with two chapters still left to go, Leterrier needed to figure out a way to up the ante, which he did by insisting on more practical stunts that would provide the movie a genuine sense of realism and hearken back to believability of the series' earlier installments.
"You need to step it up," the filmmaker explained to Esquire Middle East. "What I wanted to do on this one, because it’s very much my style, was to ground it more in reality. I wanted to — no pun intended — land it back on Earth. They went into space in number nine, and I was like, 'Okay, they went to space, there’s no way I can top that.’ But what I can do is do stuff that we’ve never done before practically, such as rolling a one-ton bomb — an actual one ton metal ball in the streets of Rome, and hope not to destroy the Colosseum." He continued: "Obviously we had visual effects help, but we just needed to keep everything grounded in the practical. The visual effects were mainly for safety and scope, but we needed the basis to stay in our reality. Without that, it would become too much. I wanted it to feel like Fast 1, Fast 3, and Fast 5 — movies that feel grounded. That is my style, and everyone accepted that, so everyone was really on board. Everyone was excited to re-explore physical stunts."

‘FAST X’ DIRECTOR TEASES ‘TREMENDOUS CASUALTIES’ FOR DOM AND FAMILY: ‘HIS ENEMIES ARE COMING’
It's all setting up for an epic finale as the Fast Saga races toward the finish.
It’s been a long time coming, and he’s made more than a few enemies along the way: Yep, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) is facing ultimate odds as Fast X comes drifting ‘round the final bend toward its May date with moviegoers, fending off one familiar nemesis (Charlize Theron as Cipher) while dealing with an altogether new and hyper-motivated threat.
That mean new mien looming in Dom’s rearview is none other than Dante (franchise newcomer Jason Momoa), the son of vanquished Fast Five foe and deceased Brazilian cartel kingpin, Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida). With his dad dead and Dom living high on Reyes' stolen millions, Dante, of course, arrives in Dom's world of Fast X as a dude who's seriously bent on vengeance.
“He’s an incredible new character,” as director Louis Leterrier recently confided in the newest edition of Empire magazine (on sale now), one who's “1,000 percent Momoa. And they are bad news, but one is more afraid than the other. One is worse news than the other.”
“There’s a war brewing. It’s coming to an end, and it is a race to the finish. There will be some tremendous casualties,” said Leterrier. “…You know, I don’t want to oversell it, but what we’re planning on the next one is just gigantic, in terms of action, scope, and emotion. You will feel all the feels. Tears will roll.”
