It's been a long time coming, but finally it seems like Vin Diesel's Action Kojak movie is in the works. In 2012, Deadline reported that Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were tapped to write the script for the film, centered around the tough and incorruptible Lieutenant Theo Kojak, a reimagining of the '70s CBS/Universal crime drama. The Fast & Furious actor was set to portray the titular cop and produce alongside Samantha Vincent for their One Race Films.
Three years later, Variety reported that playwright Philip Gawthorne would be taking over as writer. Since then, there hadn't been many details about the movie or the script, and it was unclear whether it was even still happening. Fans won't have to worry any longer, as Vin Diesel posted an Instagram video from the Universal Studios backlot. The film has long been in production, with postings about this project several times in the past but it's possible it took a few scripts to get out all the kinks.
Vin Diesel For Big Screen "Kojak"
Writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade ("Skyfall") will update the CBS TV series "Kojak" as a feature film for Universal, starring actor Vin Diesel, who will also co-produce with Samantha Vincent for One Race Films.
The original "Kojak" TV series was created by Oscar winner Abby Mann, as a gritty police procedural, focusing on institutionalized prejudice and civil rights of suspects and witnesses, starring actor Telly Savalas ("The Dirty Dozen") as New York City 'Detective Lieutenant Theo Kojak'.
The series aired from October 24, 1973, to March 18, 1978.
"...'Lieutenant Theodore ('Theo') Kojak (Savalas) is a dapper, New York City policeman, fond of 'Tootsie Roll Pops' and using the catchphrase, 'Who loves ya, baby?'.
"Stubborn and tenacious in his investigation of crimes, he also displays a dark, cynical wit and a tendency to bend the rules if it brings a criminal to justice..."
The good news is that Vin Diesel has confirmed that went to New York looking for locations to merge Kojak's magic of the 70's with the current New York live style. Let's keep the finger crossed that Vin Diesel's new filming adventure comes out to theatres shortly, please watch Vin's post to social media below:
Lucky kid from New York…
As far as I think about this new Vin Diesel's project, I have to say that without doubts Vin Diesel's Kojak action movie on the works is another perfect angle to be added to the list of Vin Diesel's stubborn and tenacious characters "Dom Toretto", "Riddick", "Xander Cage" are all of them as stubborn as Kojak in their owned way. Kojak was previously describe as stubborn and tenacious in his investigation of crimes, he also displays a dark, cynical wit and a tendency to bend the rules if it brings a criminal to justice' Adding to Kojak's complex and stubborn pathology Vin Diesel's view of cop's cars chasing, I can assure that this new version of the legendary detective will bring up the adrenaline to higher levels.
To give a clean look of Vin Diesel's posted video to social media, below I have attached links to websites with imagens and comments about places in New York City in the 70's, where Kojak used to move during his serial.
Same location July 2018
Same location today May 2024
After seeing those old imagens we have to agreed that New York City has changes a lot since the 70"s then, it is a challenge for Vin Diesel and his creative team to relocate this new version of Kojak in the contemporary big apple, keeping at the same time intact the magic of the 70's. But keeping in mind that bein Vin Diesel raised and residing in New York City the majority of his life, I am more that sure and also positive that he will find the best places to do his magic of cinema for us one more time.
Below I am adding some video is regards Vin Diesel's Kojak Action Movie on the Works, that I hope you will enjoy watching:
